Mission
Great Basin Land and Water (GBLW) is a public benefit (501(c)(3)) non-profit organization incorporated in 1996 in the State of Nevada. GBLW's exempt purpose is to directly benefit the general public by preserving and enhancing the ecological, natural, scenic, historical and/or recreational values of important land and water resources primarily in the Great Basin areas of Nevada, Utah and California. In furtherance of this purpose, the organization’s board members, staff, and contractors cooperate with federal, state, and local governmental entities, Native American tribes, and other non-profit organizations to accomplish the following:
- Acquisition on behalf of the general public of:
- important water rights to be dedicated, managed and used to augment instream flows, improve water quality, maintain and preserve aquatic and riparian habitat, enhance habitat conditions for fish and wildlife, and promote aesthetic and recreational values; and
- lands devoted to the preservation of native plants and animals, biotic communities, historic resources, working landscapes, recreation and scenic beauty.
- Advancement, through research and public education activities, of public knowledge and understanding of the preservation and conservation of the natural resources of the Great Basin and to generate practical ways to insure the sustainable use of land and water resources to promote optimum human living conditions in an ecologically healthy environment.
